… face East …

worth the risk ?

Sibuan Island

just back from Semporna, Sabah… a beautiful place where I think all photographer will love it ….

thanks our Bintulu friends share this outing with us and my gang to make this happen .. a wonderful trip even not much pictures but a trips with many good and fantastic memories …

we looking for opportunity to shoot the nightscape and sunrise on the island and managed to arrange one on 3rd day of our trip .. we decide to go to a small Island (recommended by the boatman) to have beautiful Milkyway and sunrise shot …. so we have to start leaving from ground 330am … and with small boat (that carry max 6ppl) toward a “small Island” that took us ~1hr ++ to reach … and it is almost TOTAL DARK while we travel … !!!! and it was rain too … it was so scary while we traveling to the island ..  … and no one is dare to repeat 2nd trip on next 2 days … … think back .. how could we manage to travel with small boat 1-1.5hr at total darkness … with strong wave !!!!!

and the 1st picture I capture …

Millky way under the dream house ?

still remember how dark when we travel to the Island … SCARY !!!!

why GND and RGND ?

did a quick compare into single image .. for why we use GND and RGND

left … – no filter while foreground correct expose but the sky will look over

Center – with GND 1.2, the sky will be balance as reduce light go through on the top part but the horizontal level still look over due to the light source from there

right – the filter transit from center to top (darker at center) so managed to block more light at the horizontal level and maintain the details

there is no right and wrong in photography .. but using different filters will give you how your picture look like …..

and if you look for Lee Filter .. Singh-Ray … i may have some stock available

rule or view ?

while I started my landscape, many of forum friends had share with me all the “guidelines”/”rules” e.g. 2/3 horizontal line …etc …. appreciate that and I learn fast from everyone inputs….

as for now, I trying to share as much that in my mind to my gang, friends, workshop participants ..etc …. all the “guidelines” but I always emphasize .. while we trying to think and follow the “guidelines” , we can still capture what we love to capture as snapshot or follow own preference as this will make us enjoy the photography … rather stand there without any shutter press even the view is great ….

e.g. of this … I can’t make any good decision while the light (cloud on left top) moving real fast and if I still move myself to look for better angle then I definite will miss this beautiful sky …. there are nothing at foreground too …. if I make foreground 2/3 ….. so I decide to capture the view to share with other rather just view this myself ….

... interset | Kemasik Beach ...

nothing wrong but it look not too attractive overall … but I will still capture 50/50 if I feel I have no choice … 😀

how close will you go ?

was away for few days for Jul-Aug Nightscape and Correct Exposure workshop and thanks all for this success workshop + outing ….

I didn;t shoot a lot except last day while I saw my lovely wave … and thinking of how close every can go toward the wave splash … and am happy almost everyone got “wet”

and while I was there… ask again myself and other .. how close will you go and because of beautiful pictures will you go close to rish your gear for wet and malfunction ?

thanks Erica for few capture how I capture the wave

a Splash shot worth to share …

a simple shot that may not come out easy…. just share one of my tough shot recently done at Kemasik Beach, Kemaman, Terengganu…

I was standing near the big rock waiting for the big splash …. my len filters keep splash by wave, need non stop drying , and myself wet too after few splashes that I feel not stong enough  and finally I got the splash what I looking for … then I got wet and have to run away from it …. have ~30-50 shutter press for this

running from wave

and this is a simple and happy shot with a lot of effort (for me ….)

never been a place so beautiful before, saw a clear Milky way while I reach … and it is like total mirror when the light is out … nothing I want to capture except try to show the beautiful and perfect reflection (someone is walking in the river …so actually not so calm while I shoot this)

even I only spent ~2hours there… I would rate this one of the best Landscape Photography spot for Malaysia .. the calm sea water with perfect reflection with angle toward ~135 degree south toward North west …. can do perfect fisherman life shooting, sunrise, salt water reflection …. I am sure I will be there again very soon ……….

milky through nake eye

... another milky way ...

– was using black card method/finger to shoot this where share it here

and the beautiful of the reflection

... the mirror ...

and will share more Kelantan pictures here

Patient to wait …

it is always difficult to have what you wish to have in frame (except we make the story to capture ….)

A good example, I was looking at the beautiful reflection on beach

Kemasik Beach with reflection

*** above picture is ~1.5minutes after picture below but it look about same before too

and what I have with the “magic minute” moment

The wave "took" over the reflection role ....

with the wave, I have no choice to capture it as leading line instead what I original plan to have the beautiful reflection … so do not change yours position even something change but we make the change into our final output …..

**** it is always difficult but we still try our best to capture the beauty of the nature … enjoy ……
